Maybe the most popular island group in Greece, Cyclades represents the whitewashed architectural style with the blue domed churches, donkey rides on narrow alleys and steep hills, the smell of thyme and sea salt, the windy summer days and the breathtaking sunset and sea views.
The best way to wander around a lot of islands in this region is island hopping, staying in each island from 3 to 5 days and having day trips to smaller islands in between. Alternatively sailing and yachting are optimal choices for the soaring fans. The islands can be easily reached from Athens by ferry or plane when an airport is available.
Located in the Aegean Sea took its name from the shape, circle, the islands form around the sacred, in the ancient era, island of Delos. Cyclades consist of about 220 islands, most of them uninhabited. The most famous islands are about 33 including 2 major volcanic islands Santorini & Milos.
The area is an ideal destination depending on the specific island travellers may choose, for couples, families, young adults, the LGBTQ+ community, group events and educational expeditions. In Cyclades wanderers may find cosmopolitan islands and laid back totally remote ones.
Colorful cobblestone alleys, picturesque villages, delicious dishes and stunning beaches are only some of the features of this region, which offers an extraordinary opportunity for tasting, exploring, sightseeing, hiking, swimming and other experiences for joyful& unforgettable memories.
For foodies Cyclades is a heavenly destination offering native delicious delicacies in every corner from exquisite wine in Santorini & Tinos, to unique local spirits and dairy products in Naxos and traditional recipes with indigenous ingredients in Sifnos and Amorgos.
For those who wish to stay away from the crowds the Small Cyclades which include Koufonisia, Irakleia, Donoussa and Schinoussa are a match made in heaven. Additional to this small group of islands similar destinations are Anafi and Sikinos, followed by Foleganderos, Kimolos and Serifos.
