The “Small Cyclades” are a group of tiny islands in the middle of the Cyclades region, located very close to the islands of Naxos and Amorgos. These islands have amazing coastline, crystal clear waters and a fascinating history. Donoussa, Pano Koufonissi, Schinoussa and Iraklia, the only inhabited islands, are among Greece’s smallest inhabited islands, with only a few hundred permanent residents. Small Cyclades are easily accessible via Piraeus port in Athens, Naxos, and Amorgos. Breathtaking views and beautiful sceneries are reminding of a time when Greece was less touristic and the pace was simpler and slower.
The Small Cyclades are peaceful and distinctive in relation to the rest of the Cyclades. The combination of picturesque settlements, turquoise waters, home cooked meals, and local taverns serving wonderful local cuisine makes these islands ideal for exploring and relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds. The residents are kind and welcoming, always eager to share their knowledge of the area’s history and its hidden treasures. Natural beautiful landscape, stunning tropical beaches with emerald-colored waves, many colors of blue and turquoise, along with the lovely churches and modest white buildings, paths that lead to mysterious locations, wonderful local meals, and delectable natural items.
Except from the wonderful beaches another incentive to visit the Small Cyclades is to explore the numerous pathways and hiking routes. The islands that belong to this region have kept their countryside character, have no big roads and very few vehicles to go around, mainly scooters and vespas. The villages, beaches and various landmarks can easily be discovered through the islands’ walking paths. These islands are supreme for a day trip from the bigger islands of Naxos and Amorgos or for a unique island hopping experience. Small Cyclades are also an ideal destination for a sailing/ yachting trip in the Aegean.
