Seeking Wanderland

Polyaigos is located in the Cyclades, neighboring with the island of Milos and Kimolos, took Its name by the massive population of goats on the island, which literally means “many goats”. It is one of the largest uninhabited islands in the Aegean sea and offers numerous pristine beaches and emerald waters.

It is trully an enchanted island, with blue seas and dazzling white sand. There are wonderful beaches, mostly on the island’s southern coast, as well as several sea-surface caves that serve as a haven for a diminishing population of the Mediterranean monk seals (Monachus monachus).  The island hosts rare plant and animal species, such as the seals and the Eleonora falcon, hence it is part of the Natura 2000 network of protected biotopes.

Ammoura (or Faros) on the eastern side has a trail going up to the lighthouse, it is a 20 minute hike and offers beautiful views. Another interesting spot on Polyaigos is Panagia Beach, which has a walkway leading to the adjacent church of Kimissis Theotokou, which also offers a fantastic view. The Fanara Cave is stunning, boats can sail inside it and the roof of the cave has fallen, allowing the sun to cast an incredible blue light on the water. At the north, there are the towering and spectacular Diamantospilia Caves, which are large enough to accommodate a sailing boat. The term is derived from the presence of fine crystal quartz and other minerals in the rocks.While cruising around the islet, guests can observe the lighthouse on Cape Maskoula, the numerous caverns, cliffs and the breathtaking beaches.
